Our Commitment…
At Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home & Cremation Service we are committed to providing extraordinary service to community families. This commitment includes providing the highest standard in traditional and cremation options to meet each family’s unique needs. Our staff is always available to address your questions, concerns and requests. We are here to assist you in creating a meaningful celebration of your loved one’s life.
About Us…
Our service is unique, caring, compassionate and based on the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have others do unto you). Our professional staff understands and appreciates that the funeral service you select is an individual expression and a tribute to your loved one. We are committed to serving all members of our community regardless of cultural or religious customs and without bias toward personal preferences.
Our understanding, respect and compassion are among the many reasons to turn to Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Our Special Service…
Basing our service on the Golden Rule, we are committed to treating each and every family we serve with the same respect and care we would expect for ourselves. This is rooted in three generations of placing your needs as our highest priority.
We believe there are many features of our service that distinguish our funeral home from others, including a funeral director who is responsible and dedicated to you and your wishes from the first time you call on us, through your services and beyond. This extraordinary service begins by asking the right questions and listening carefully to what you have to say. By learning about your loved one we can begin to help you explore ideas on how to best create a meaningful experience that truly reflects the life lived.
In the past we have created many special, unique services. For one mother who loved gardening, we brought in her garden gate and displayed a small garden near her casket. For a gentleman who was a benefactor of the local mounted police we welcomed an honor guard of officers and horses at attention in the parking lot as the casket was carried out. We also can include special music selections, videos, photo collages and memory centers to express the uniqueness of your loved one’s life.
Another distinguishing element of our service is our attention to detail. We provide a greeter/attendant at all times to welcome your family and guests. We understand it can be uncomfortable to visit a funeral home, especially if you have not been to one before. By simply having a friendly, knowledgeable staff member to open the door and guide you to the parlor, we find families and guests feel welcome immediately. It also ensures there will be someone available to answer your questions and meet your requests in a timely manner.
At Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home & Cremation Service you will receive personal, compassionate service along with attention to details that one family referred to as “phenomenal.”
History
Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home has a reputation for providing the highest quality service and care in the community. This reputation is steeped in a long and interesting heritage.
In 1908, Harry T. Maher founded the Maher Funeral Home of Woodland Ave. in Cleveland. After his death in 1939, his wife Lucy A. Maher operated the business while raising four children, two of whom, John Maher and Hugh Maher, later joined her in the business.
In 1956, Maher Funeral Home purchased an additional facility at 4274 Mayfield Road (at Belvoir Boulevard) in South Euclid, Ohio.
In 1973, Maher Funeral Home merged with the Melbourne Funeral Home of Euclid Avenue in East Cleveland. The Melbourne Funeral Home was also family owned, having been established in 1898.
Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home then operated at 4274 Mayfield Road (at Belvoir Boulevard) where it is currently located. Maher-Melbourne Funeral Home was operated by Hugh and Kevin Maher until Hugh’s death in early 2003. Today, Kevin and the professional staff continue the dignified work of the Maher-Melbourne commitment.
The funeral home has received the distinguished Silver Public Approval Award from the International Order of the Golden Rule for giving outstanding service to families. This group, known as OGR, is an affiliation of independently owned funeral homes. It was established in 1928 to identify and honor outstanding funeral homes throughout North America.
